About Gift AidUnder the UK Goverment's Gift Aid scheme, charities can reclaim an extra 28% in tax on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. For example, if you give £10 to Monty’s Corner, and you Gift Aid your donation, HM Revenue & Customs will add £2.80, bringing the total donation to £12.80. Between 6 April 2008 and 5 April 2011, the government will also give UK charities an extra 3% of all eligible donations. This ‘transitional relief’ does not affect your personal tax position. When you donate, you will be asked to confirm whether or not you are a UK taxpayer. Please note that tax can only be reclaimed on donations made by individuals who pay UK income or capital gains tax at least equal to the amount reclaimed on their donations in the current tax year. What if I am not a UK taxpayer? The Gift Aid scheme is unique to the UK. If you are not a UK taxpayer, you can still make a donation, but your donation will not attract Gift Aid. Please note that online transaction fees apply to donations made on this website. We pay 3.4% + £0.20 to our online payment service provider for each transaction. |
